About this game

Play as Shroomie in Shroomwood, a top-down 2D action roguelike blending fast-paced shooting, melee combat, and dynamic forest exploration.

Step into the vibrant wilderness of Shroomwood as Shroomie, a curious little mushroom protagonist fighting back against the dangers of an ever-changing forest. This top-down 2D action roguelike combines fast-paced combat with dynamic dungeon exploration, dropping you right into an unpredictable ecosystem where classical slimes and zombie-infested mushrooms lurk around every corner. Because the forest rearranges itself with every playthrough, no two journeys through the biomes are ever the same, offering a fresh setup whenever you dive back in.

Gameplay

Your survival relies on mastering a combination of shooting mechanics inspired by traditional roguelikes alongside a brand new melee system. You get to equip diverse gear from a pool of over 20 unique weapons, and you can further enhance them using more than 50 unique modifiers that grant both stat-changing and gameplay-altering effects. As you navigate randomized rooms and procedurally-generated layouts, staying alert is essential for handling magical foes, dense bullet patterns, and intense encounters.

Whenever you need supplies or a brief respite from the hazards of the wild, you can track down a shop during any active run. These shops let you cash in your gathered Shroomstone, recover your health, and buy brand new equipment while meeting interesting non-player characters along the way.

Between runs, your journey brings you back to Shroomstead, a small clearing serving as home to you and your fellow sentient mushroom species. In this safe haven, you can meet various NPCs, upgrade your weapons, discover magical obelisk structures, and prepare yourself for the next venture into the deep woods.

What stands out

The game deliberately puts a creative spin on the classic roguelike formula by fusing familiar twin-stick shooting traditions with an original melee system, packing each room with more bullets, more enemies, and faster action. Its vibrant and unique biomes trade typical stone dungeons for colorful, fungal environments filled with classical slimes and corrupted forest inhabitants.

Who might enjoy it

If you enjoy top-down action roguelikes that emphasize fast-paced combat, diverse weapon modification trees, and randomized dungeon layouts, this adventure offers plenty of secrets to uncover across its shifting biomes.
